Janata Samajbadi Party stages demonstration against constitution amendment bill in capital

KATHMANDU, June 30 | Taking strong exception to the constitution amendment bill which proposes granting naturalized citizenship to foreign women married to Nepali men only seven years after the marriage, the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) staged a demonstration in the capital on Tuesday.

The party has claimed that the provision of a seven-year waiting period for foreign women married to Nepali men to get naturalized citizenship is discriminatory. During the protest, party leaders demanded that discrimination against women and injustice against the Madhesi people be ended.

Top leaders of the party including Upendra Yadav, Mahantha Thakur and Baburam Bhattarai joined the protest march. The party has accused the ruling party of being discriminatory against women. The protest march which began from Maitighar with traditional Nepali musical instruments concluded at New Baneshwar.
